We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Venture Portfolio Manager to join our Chemovator Core Team!

Chemovator is the business incubator of BASF and supports venture teams to turn great business proposals into scalable and investable business opportunities.

Your Role

  • Lead the investment processes end-to-end including due diligence, negotiation and portfolio management
  • Further develop the Chemovator investment thesis and continue building the Chemovator brand
  • Drive value for Chemovator by building ventures that spin-off with attractive valuations or spin-in to become meaningful portfolio additions to BASF
  • Responsible for managing all Chemovator Shareholdings
  • Shape the journey of new ventures from beginning to end, deciding which teams join Chemovator as a member of the executive jury, and have a key role in portfolio management and decision-making
  • Reshape a dedicated external program, targeting early-stage startups for the chemical industry of tomorrow
  • Support portfolio ventures with strategic guidance and industry know-how, develop portfolio ventures from early commercial validation and manage exit processes, deal structuring, and fundraising activities
  • Continuously monitor the Chemovator Incubation Journey, plan the use of resources, be responsible for portfolio reporting, manage, and expand professional networks, and represent Chemovator in the ecosystem
  • Advise the Venture Teams strategically by being an active member in the board of the teams


Your offer

  • An educational background preferably from fields like economics, finance, natural sciences, or similar
  • Professional experience in the area of investments into start-ups, e.g., VC or Business Angel
  • Comprehensive network in Venture Capital/Startup Ecosystem
  • Thorough understanding of founding sources for early-stage ventures
  • Professional experience in the area around Venture Building beginning from early idea to investment readiness
  • Experience in legal frameworks and investment process for founding start-ups
  • Take decisions – especially uncomfortable ones – thoughtfully but decisively, even under high degrees of uncertainty and pressure
  • Excellent communication skills - acting with empathy and well-developed interpersonal skills to navigate the needs of founders, investors, and other key stakeholders
  • High degree of self-organization to prioritize and organize
  • Best of both worlds; from hands-on work up to strategic levels
  • Fluent business English and German
